Sending postcards and packages to the folks back home needn't be difficult for vacationers who understand a bit about the postal services in the Caribbean.
Post offices hours vary depending on the island, but generally speaking, most open between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and close between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. A post office is the best place to mail a parcel, but if you'd like to send a postcard or letter, traveling to the post office is not necessary. Most hotels and resorts sell stamps and postcards and will also send these items out for you. Post rates vary from island to island.
When sending mail from any island in the Caribbean to another country, expect the following delivery times:
|
Country |
Arrival Time |
|---|---|
| Australia | Airmail: 3-4 weeks |
| Canada | Airmail: 1-2 weeks |
| New Zealand | Airmail: 3-4 weeks |
| United Kingdom | Airmail: 2-3 weeks |
| United States | Airmail:1-2 weeks |
These times are subject to change; check with a local island post office for the most current rates and delivery times.
If you require overnight mail services, some, but not all, islands have Airborne, FedEx or UPS branches. Note that the term "overnight service" does not always ensure next-day delivery; the planes that carry mail from the Caribbean are in short supply. Plan on two- or three-day delivery when utilizing an overnight service in the Caribbean.
